Joe Blum

From an introduction at a commencement address
(to ITT graduates in Orlando, Florida, in 1997)

"Mr. Blum was born in a small village in Austria during the end of World War II, so he learned early to make the most out of the least . . . to make do with what was on hand . . . to capitalize on handicaps . . . to thrive on challenges.

At age 19, when he arrived in Canada, Joe spoke no English, had little more than a blue-collar education and no money or friends to help him get started . . . yet he survived and prospered, especially in the areas of teaching and coaching.

Today, Joe is a published author on issues of theology and career selection, is a graduate from a program similar to ours and a recent graduate (summa cum laude) from NOVA Southeastern University with a baccalaureate in Hospitality & Business Management.   Help me welcome Able Toastmaster, Joe Blum."

ADDITIONAL DETAILS (from other introductions)

Mr. Blum went to school for eight years in Gloggnitz and three years in Ternitz -- two small towns southwest of Vienna.  In 1956, he immigrated to Canada and five years later into the U.S.  In 1992, after 30+ years in the dance business, he had an almost fatal accident and retrained as a computer programmer at the Center for High-Tech Training for the Disabled (at Valencia Community College, Orlando, Florida).  In 1996, Joe graduated with distinction from NOVA Southeastern University.  Last year (2004), he graduated with a Masters in TESOL at UCF with pacesetting plans for modifying its program. He also has, of course, a TEFL Certificate.

Underlying these academic pursuits remained Mr. Blum's passion for helping people become emotionally bulletproof.   For most of his life, Joe accomplished this through teaching social ballroom dancing.   In 1977, he became the "Reverend" Joe Blum and began to officially include the "Science of Mind" (as taught by Dr. Ernest Holmes) along with his established expertise in dealing with students.   Together, they proved to be extremely effective.

His ministerial theses, "I Am Both Adam and Eve," developed into a book (seminar hand-out) by the same name.  Dr. Roy Graves, a veteran Religious Science minister, commented to the book, saying, "Joe, you have written for the generations to come . . . you certainly have done your homework."   Dr. Jack Noon, professor of Atomic Physics at the University of Central Florida, upon proof-reading the manuscript, stated: "In my forty-five years of teaching I have never encountered a more unique and possibly quite valid application of using the vocabulary of atomic physics to describe human personality differences."  In part, this book was responsible for the development of this site . . . especially the E:P:N Analysis™ portion of it.
